Roger Beckie is a geological engineer and professor in Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia, where he was the Director of the Geological Engineering Program (2002-2011) and Department Head (2014 – 2019).
His area of research is groundwater hydrology and geochemistry. He uses laboratory experiments, fieldwork and numerical models to study the hydrology and hydrogeochemistry of drainage from mine waste, the impacts of fugitive natural gas on groundwater, naturally occurring arsenic in aquifers in south Asia, and the biogeochemistry of Fraser River Delta groundwater systems.
