The general objective of this research is to assess all available biological-based approaches for controlling constituent release from mine wastes. Specifically, the project aims to: (1) Categorize all major biological-based methods based on available knowledge for controlling constituent release from mine wastes; (2) Develop economic and technical criteria to evaluate the practicality of these methods; (3) Make recommendations to the partner company on the path forward for scaling up suitable biological-based source control techniques. Another focus of this project is knowledge transfer via workshops to communicate the research findings to the sponsor company and possibly a broader mining community.
