The Sustainable Mine Energy Systems (SMES) theme is continuing to meet on a regular basis with researchers across campus. The goal of these meetings is to identify on-campus strengths, identify outstanding research and industry questions, and build a strategic plan that will best help the theme grow and tackle these questions.

We expect to be officially launching this theme in the next few months with a webinar presentation, so be sure to keep an eye out for more information!

Additionally, Theme Leader, Dr. Ali Madiseh, has been successful with two MITACS Accelerate grants. The first focuses on the use of geothermal energy to heat buildings (read more here) and the second focuses on the development of new sustainable mine systems technology (read more here).
